IATA: Air Shipments (Recurrent) - Online Course Information

Tuition: $295 per seat  (multiple seat discounts available)

Prerequisite:  IATA Dangerous Goods training within the previous 24 months.

Materials: Current edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations required for this session. If you need a current copy, we suggest purchasing one from DG Supply at 800-347-7879.

Training valid for: 24 months

Time Required:

• 12 to 20 hours for recurrent training or for someone who has not regularly used the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

• 8 to 12 hours for those who regularly use the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Who should take this course? Any hazmat employee who has had IATA initial training within the previous 24 months and needs to understand how to use the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR). This includes:

• Shipping personnel who prepare and sign the shipping papers for air transport.

• Personnel responsible for classifying hazardous product.

• Anyone else who meets the definition of a "hazmat employee" and who needs to understand how to read and interpret the IATA Air Regulations.

Scope of this course: This course covers the shippers (and carriers’) responsibilities for the following functions:

• Classification (using IATA Section 3) of products

• Identification (ie. selecting a proper shipping name and using IATA Section 4.2)

• Packing (using the IATA packing instructions and selecting the correct specification or Limited Quantity Packaging)

• Marking and Labeling

• Documentation

• Use of the IATA Checklist

• State and Operator Variations

Are any additional training courses required?

• Hazmat Security Awareness Training (SAT)- In the United States this additional training is required. DGI offers free SAT on our website www.dgitraining.com.

• Function Specific Training - Ultimately (in the United States) your employer has final responsibility for determining if a hazmat employee is properly trained for their particular job function.  Since there is a potential for limitless types of job functions as determined by an individual employer, we as your training provider can only suggest what types of additional training might be required.

• We recommend that persons shipping the following substance get additional training:

• Radioactive Materials

• Toxic Gases (additional DOT requirements)

• Toxic Inhalation Hazard

• Packaging of Explosives (additional DOT requirements)

For the best Online Training experience:

1. Able to work independently without an instructor present.

2. Familiar with the use of a computer and common software.

3. Knowledge or understanding of the applicable regulations.

4. Fluent in the English language.

5. It is recommended you use Internet Explorer.

6. High-speed connection is recommended, but not required.

7. You can log in and out of the training program at any time, and as often as you wish (except during the exam where you must complete the course in one sitting) Logging out during the exam will lock you out of the program and the entire exam must be taken again.

8. Log out if you must leave your desk. The program may lock up if your computer is left idle for more than 10 minutes.

9. Ensure sound is turned on and the volume is up as these courses have audio files.

10. Read instructions in the introduction to the program to learn how to navigate through the program.
