Who should take this course? The 4-Day 49CFR/IATA Initial classroom training is designed for basic shippers, freight forwarders, third party logistics entities, carriers and freight brokers who prepare Ground and Air dangerous goods shipments: for highway transit using the 49CFR regulations and air transit using the IATA regulations. This includes any hazmat employee who needs to understand how to use the 49CFR and IATA Regulations. (Shipping personnel who prepare and sign the shipping papers for transport, Personnel responsible for classifying hazardous product, and anyone else who meets the definition of a "hazmat employee" and who needs to understand how to read and interpret the 49CFR and IATA Regulations.)
This course Fulfills US DOT and International Law Training Requirements.
49CFR Training for ground transporation, also known as DOT is required for shippers who prepare dangerous goods shipments for highway transit in the United States using the 49CFR regulations.
IATA Training for air transportation, also known as ICAO Training is required for any hazmat employee who needs to understand how to use the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR). This includes: Shipping personnel who prepare and sign the shipping papers for air transport, Personnel responsible for classifying hazardous product, and anyone else who meets the definition of a "hazmat employee" and who needs to understand how to read and interpret the IATA Air Regulations.

Course Duration
Time Required:
- This is a 4 day class.
- Classroom training time (taught at a hotel location) is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m local time each day.
- The first day of your class registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with coffee provided.
- There will be a one hour lunch break on your own. (Morning and Afternoon snacks will be provided)
Additional Required Training
Depending on your job functions, additional training may be required:
- Function Specific Training - Ultimately (in the United States) your employer has final responsibility for determining if a hazmat employee is properly trained for their particular job function. Since there is a potential for limitless types of job functions as determined by an individual employer, we as your training provider can only suggest what types of additional training might be required.
- Hazmat Security Awareness Training (SAT) - In the United States this additional training is required. DGI offers access to free SAT on our website.
- If you ship Lithium Batteries, Radioactive Materials or Explosives additional training is recommended.
