Upon completion of this course attendees will be able to:

  • Apply the dangerous goods and hazardous materials regulations correctly.
  • Describe some of the legal aspects of shipping hazardous materials.
  • Explain the relationship between Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR), the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, the IMDG Code.
  • Understand shipper and operator responsibilities.
  • Identify the nine hazard classes.
  • Select a proper shipping name.
  • Choose the appropriate packaging.
  • Understand UN specification packaging marks and the importance of using the packagings properly.
  • Properly mark and label packages.
  • Correctly complete the appropriate shipping documents.
  • Choose the correct placards
  • The primary focus of this material is on non-bulk packaging

    Current editions of 49 CFR, IATA, and IMDG regulations are recommended but not required. Students must provide their own copies, as they are not included with the course. Copies are available from our recommended suppliers .

    An exam concludes the course. Follow the on-screen instructions.

    Sticky notes, pens, a highlighter, and note paper.
