Who should take this course? DGI's General Awareness Program is for employees that require a basic understanding and recognition of handling of dangerous goods shipments. This course may be taken by those needing Initial or Recurrent training.
This course is NOT for personnel who are responsible for acceptance checklists and regulatory review to determine compliance for a given shipment. Employees who need to review the regulations to determine a packages compliance with the rules, and personnel responsible for certifying shipments by signing a dangerous goods declaration or HazMat Bill of Lading will require additional training.
This course is an overview of the regulations, and is not for qualification or certification.

- Regulations
Current editions of 49 CFR, IATA, and IMDG regulations are recommended but not required. Students must provide their own copies, as they are not included with the course. Copies are available from our recommended suppliers.

Time Required:
- Estimated completion time: 2-4 hours.
- You have 3 months from the date of payment to complete the course.
- A one-time extension may be purchased if additional time is needed.
Depending on your job functions, additional training may be required:
- Function Specific Training - As long as you are not in a position where you have to read and interpret the regulations or determine compliance or acceptance, this course is sufficient for those workers following instructions and just handling shipments of Dangerous Goods. Ultimately (in the United States) your employer has final responsibility for determining if a hazmat employee is properly trained for their particular job function. Since there is a potential for limitless types of job functions as determined by an individual employer, we as your training provider can only suggest what types of additional training might be required.
