Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
• Apply the dangerous goods and hazardous materials regulations correctly.
• Describe some of the legal aspects of shipping hazardous materials.
• Explain the relationship between Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR), the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, the IMDG Code.
• Understand shipper and operator responsibilities.
• Identify the nine hazard classes.
• Select a proper shipping name.
• Choose the appropriate packaging.
• Understand UN specification packaging marks and the importance of using the packagings properly.
• Properly mark and label packages.
• Correctly complete the appropriate shipping documents.
• Choose the correct placards
The primary focus of this material is on non-bulk packaging
Materials Required: When beginning the course follow onscreen prompts to download and print the student workbook. It would also be beneficial to have a copy of the current 49CFR, IATA and IMDG Regulations. If you need a current copy, we suggest purchasing one from our recommended suppliers.
Are any additional training courses required?
- Function Specific Training- Ultimately (in the United States) your employer has final responsibility for determining if a hazmat employee is properly trained for their particular job function.
